That’s TWENTY PERCENT of us, but those of us who are suffering are pretty sure nobody hears, or even sees us. It’s time to stop gushing over our babies for a moment and start asking US, the mothers, how WE are doing.
Who’s teaching us moms how to take care of ourselves?
And reminding us that ME TIME is non-negotiable? Who is speaking for us and to us? Where is the TV commercial showing all the moms like me WEEPING UNCONTROLLABLY in the bathroom with the door locked or staring out the window plotting my escape route?
That’s why I created MOTHERHOOD UNDERSTOOD.
To unmask the not so pretty side of the role we’re taught to believe comes naturally when we decide it’s time to start a family. For me, it took a whole year…and medication, just to adjust to my new life as mommy.

We’re here to remind you that you’re not alone and give you some love, support and tools to help push you through the rough stuff. Even when you feel hopeless.
That oxygen mask? It’s okay to not want to share it at first with our offspring.
Even when we do, we have no choice but to put ours on first. Mama’s mental health and self-care has to always be at the top of the to-do list and we want to help you get there.
WHAT IS MOTHERHOOD UNDERSTOOD?
It’s a platform for all the overwhelmed and depressed moms like me—the ones nobody talks about. The ones whose natural instincts did not prepare us for the important role of motherhood. Moms LIKE ME who punish ourselves for admitting, silently or out loud that we cannot stand this job that seemingly every woman since the beginning of time thinks is the greatest, most fulfilling role ON THE PLANET.
At MOTHERHOOD UNDERSTOOD, our goal is to educate, connect and prepare women for the emotional complications that sometimes accompany childbirth in the weeks, months, and even years that follow. The stuff nobody warns you about.
We are helping women with during-pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety empathize, share, and find people who speak their language—moms who understand that new mommy life isn’t always the way it looks on Instagram. We are committed to shining the light on the darkest of places, where mommy mental health taboos have been hiding out, doing an awesome job of convincing us that we are not enough. And we’re all alone. BULLSHIT.
Here is where we get real with each other, shame and sugar-free. The struggle is real and we’re attacking it head on, together. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE AFRAID ANYMORE.
